The Robert Half International 2016 Salary Guide for Technology Professionals report shows that nationally, the salary for data scientists increased by 7.5 percent over the one-year period from 2015 to 2016. In New Jersey, where data scientists were already earning some of the best salaries in the nation, these numbers translate into a hefty increase. In the Newark area for example, the starting salary for data scientists ranged between $152,600 – $215,250 in 2016.

As a home to large telecom, health care and pharmaceutical companies, New Jersey has been at the forefront of innovation and technology for many years. In 2012, the New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) was formed, with participants including top universities in the state that offer graduate programs in data science. Preparing for a Master’s Degree in Data Science in New Jersey
